The first enjoyment of Pizza Hut's new Parchment Pasta is the surprise element involved in unwrapping it, as if it's a special gift.

Do it with caution to avoid the hot escaping steam. Then slowly imbibe the mingling aromas of the pasta, the sauce and the ingredients that have been sealed in the parchment paper for optimum enjoyment.

In Italy, the dish is called Spaghetti Al Cartoccio, especially when the package is baked to complete the cooking.

In French cooking, it's called En Papillote.

When done well, this cooking method rewards you with a flavourful, well-balanced taste as the pasta is forced to absorb the flavours of the sauce in the sealed package as it traps the hot steam.

As I unwrapped the first Parchment Pasta, mouthwatering aromas of char-grilled chicken, turkey bacon, cooked cream, butter, garlic and capsicum hit me with an intensity that seemed to scream Eat Me!

I sure did.

The pasta, which was still al dente but easy to chew, was truly delicious, having absorbed the smoky grilled taste of the chicken and all the other flavours that had gone into the delicious creamy sauce.

The next package to arrive contained linguine enlivened with a spicy tomato sauce tossed with mussels, squids and prawns.

Strewn with small cuts of chilli padi, the Spicy Seafood Parchment was decidedly kick-ass.

The meanness was appropriate, but most importantly, this pasta contained a delicious harmony of flavours - just like the first pasta.

You can enjoy these two new pastas at Pizza Hut outlets from August 25.

With the addition of these two dishes, diners will have more pasta choices from its classic and specialty lists.

To up its ante on quality pasta, Pizza Hut is using fresh ingredients to match its choice of pasta - Barilla, the bestselling and biggest pasta brand worldwide.

The Italian brand is well-known for its consistent quality and low prices. This helps Pizza Hut to offer gourmet-style pastas at affordable prices.

For instance, the Char-grilled Chicken Parchment Pasta costs $11.90, while the Spicy Seafood version is priced just a dollar more.

To me, this is definitely a good deal.

The pastas were far superior than the ones I had recently. And they were cooked by an Italian chef with a few decades of experience!

I won't delve into the reasons for his failure here. But I can only say this: there's definitely more passion behind Parchment Pasta.
