Admiral Bar & Grill
Like an old, dusty countryside town lost in time, Admiral Bar & Grill oozes rustic allure. Given its laidback vibes, it's not difficult to fall in love with this gem of an outfit atop a small slope off Canberra Road in Sembawang.
As I entered, I was greeted by The Everly Brothers singing, "Dream... Whenever I want you, all I have to do is... dream...". Ah yes, I'm adding "dreamy" to its list of charms, too.
To fully indulge my wild-west-cowboy fantasies, I decided to get my hands on some hearty western grub to fill my growling stomach.
I wasted no time ordering several charcoal-grilled delights, including the scrumptious Rosemary Baby Rack ($23.90) and Pepper Corn Chicken Chop ($12.90).
The former was pleasantly cooked to perfection, the huge, chunky ribs exuding a lovely aroma, and deliciously tender. Then I tucked into the latter, which also exuded a flavourful succulence that left me wanting more.
I called for two more substantial dishes - Grill Salmon ($16.90) and Sage lamb Chop ($19.90). While the fish proved to be a great choice, being nicely grilled, light and tangy, I found myself falling in love with the lamb slabs. These were absolutely sumptuous, juicy and piquant, and had none of the strong odours commonly associated with badly or hastily prepared mutton.
Most of the dishes come with garden greens (read: a generous portion of vegetables) and baked potato (soft and fluffy). Here's more good news: executives and students can have set meals affordably priced at $12.90 and $10.90 nett respectively, and which come with a soup, ice-cream and drink.
Parking is free and you can dine easy as GST and service charges do not apply.
