More than 70 foodies turned up for the Free Supper Feast organised by food website SoShiok.com.

They dined on a buffet spread of some of the best supper food on offer at Lau Pa Sat Festival Market last Friday night. The event started at about 11pm. The dishes featured included the famous Lakeview Char Kuay Teow and Jumain Satay.

The participants had visited SoShiok. com earlier to register for the event. The first 50 people who signed up online with Kopitiam group, which runs Lau Pa Sat, would get to enjoy the supper with a guest.

Everyone had their own favourite. Several, such as Mr Desmond Ho, 36, an IT specialist, and Mr Justin Chong, 20, who is awaiting army enlistment, enjoyed Hup Kee (Orchard Road carpark) Hokkien Mee. Mr Ho said: “It’s great to find such good food in the city and the variety is amazing. The event is also well-organised, with ample food for everyone.”

Said another fan of the dish, software engineer C.K. Lim, who is in his mid-20s: “It reminds me of the old Hokkien Mee that my dad used to buy in Hougang. It’s tasty and moist, and the taste is traditional. I will take my dad here.”

Logistics manager Benedick Goh, who went with his wife and two sons, aged nine and 11, said the family’s top choices were the Jumain Satay and Nan Xing Hainanese Chicken Rice.

Incidentally, Nan Xing is also the favourite chicken rice stall of one of the daughters of former Philippines President Cory Aquino.
