* 五星 five star chicken rice
Posted by: charleswanmushi on August 17, 2008i'm pretty sure tt almost everyone in singapore knows wat chicken rice is. hee! 海南(hainanese) 鸡饭(chicken rice), which i presume was "developed" by local hainanese chefs has become one of singapore's signature dishes and so signature tt both locals n foreigners love it for its taste and esp locals, its island-wide availability and convenience.
i've always loved chicken rice. having a 50-50 mix of plain n chicken stock rice + skinless, boneless chicken breast meat is a bonus for me. i used to adore chicken rice from this make-shift hawker center ard one raffles quay (before land reclamation) way back in 1994 where i had my first admin (temp) jobs after my O's at some atas banks along shenton way. then, the make shift hawker center closed. :( it was ultimate lunchtime bliss! soft, tender, juicy chicken n fragrant rice cooked w chicken stock. boon tong kee used to be really good back then. i now look forward to pow sing at serangoon gardens and 5 star at river valley/east coast rd. today, i visited 5 star at river valley for a simple, light dinner.
bonus!! skinless chicken breast w a dash of special soy sauce! there is no "siap-ness" (haha!) for these cuts. surprisingly tender and juicy. kampung chicken was used, i'm sure. |

i love 番薯叶 (sweet potato leaves)! very good old days i know. :) i used to prepare this before grandma accepted having a maid ard e house. trust me, its not easy to wash these leaves clean. |
五香肉卷 (ngoh hiang or five spiced meat rolls) was really crispy. it felt lean but i'm so sure tt there r some fatty bits inside. well, its calories worth it! :p |
|
wanted to place order for their 家乡豆腐 (hometown tofu) but it seems like they didnt have it. well tt's fine cos i'll save up some space for desserts. ok, time for head for dessert! |
oh yes, i'm not e only ones who's fond of snapping piccies. hehe!
spoilt for choice - nine yummie cheesecakes on a platter at saycheese, great world city |
|
add one more to make it a perfect ten! walnut cheesecake tt's well, ok. to be improved. :p |

Five-Star chicken rice is good - we mean the rice and chilli sauce. The chicken is the slim kampong type, not fleshy enough for a bite. But the chicken rice still passed the test of a famous chicken rice seller elsewhere - we went to their East Coast outlet.
As for SayCheese, their cheesecakes are delicious plus their CHICKEN RICE - the chilli sauce can still be improved.
You should try their laksa and meesiam too!
