Posh Nosh: Christmas treats from Patisserie G

When I open the box containing Patisserie G's Premium Fruit Cake ($42) and what I smell first is booze, not sugar, I yelp with joy.

Most bakers would use rum or brandy, but the dried fruit in this cake is macerated in dark rum, orange liqueur and cognac.

They are scattered about a light pound cake topped with glace cherries, prunes and dried apricots, all gleaming like jewels.

While I like a dense fruit cake, it can all be a little too much, what with the endless rounds of rich Christmas food. The pound cake is surprisingly light.

For stocking stuffers or for piling on the dessert table, get the patisserie's range of pastel-hued marshmallows ($8 for a 170g bag).

My favourite flavour is the Yuzu Raspberry, combining two of my favourite fruit. Although a lot of marshmallows are eye-poppingly sweet, the sugar is kept in check here. What you taste are the flavours.

Aside from the Yuzu Raspberry, there is also a satisfying Dark Chocolate, a bright Lemon Vanilla and a cool Peppermint.
