Savoury grilled duck tortilla at El Toro
It's a stone-grilled duck served on a baked tortilla with mixed vegetable and mixed cheese with home-made guacamole.

EL TORO is primarily known as a night spot. But it is also a cool spot to hang out in the day if you want to leave the buzz of Orchard Road.

The menu has a Latin feel. So you can expect lots of spicy dishes.

El Toro has introduced some new items in its menu. Of the lot, my favourite is the Grilled Cuban Duck Tortilla (above, $16.80).

This is a stone-grilled duck served on a baked tortilla with mixed vegetable and mixed cheese accompanied with home-made guacamole.

The savoury duck worked well with the guacamole and it was really addictive.

Also good was the Grilled Striploin Steak with Mexican Rice ($35.50).

The Mexican mole sauce was lovely, but it was the rice that won the day. It was flavourful, moist (but not overly so) and in a comfortable portion.

The Spicy Prawn Ceviche ($12.80) looked mild, but it was surprisingly spicy.

And while I’m not mad about the spice overdose, I was strangely addicted to it.

But not everything was worth the calories.

The Mixed Mushroom Pasta ($14) was strangely sweet.

The Breaded Crispy Pollo with Mash Potato & Cranberry Sauce ($18.80) was a combination of overcooked chicken and shocking sweetness.

In my book, this item failed and was the only bump in an otherwise above average menu.
