YY Kafei Dian
37 Beach Road #01-01
YY Kafei Dian is famous for its super soft kaya bun. It is freshly baked at the shop and available the whole day. Price of the soft pillow has gone up to $1.20 per bun from $1.
We were at the Kafei Dian for dinner as our friends were visiting from Canada. We opted for chicken rice instead of plain rice as they also sell Hainanese Chicken Rice. Our dinner started with Sour & Spicy Soup, which was sufficient to serve 4 bowls.
The usual ingredients like black fungus, bean curd, lean meat, egg white and carrots were used. At $4, it was a steal. Though we were running full-tank after a hi-tea, the soup was enough to enhance our appetite.
Their Signature Hainanese Pork Chop ($8) was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. It was served with yummy fries too.
We also had the Hainanese Braised Pork ($8), which was sliced in 4 generous portions. It certainly was sinful with that layers of fat. However, the skin was not soggy and the fats simply melt in your mouth.
Think of the collagen that is beneficial to your skin and you can eat it without much guilt.
Our last dish was the Poached Fish Slices with bean sprout ($12). There were only about 6 slices of fish on a bed of bean sprout.
With drinks, the whole dinner costs about $47 for 4 pax. It was value for money since we tasted some authentic Hainanese dishes.
If you are thinking of a chit chat session after dinner, the noise level here is pretty high.
Service has always been slip-shod. We had to place our drink orders 3 times before our drinks were finally served.
Overall, it is value for money and you must try the soft kaya pillow when it's freshly out of the oven. Enjoy the aroma of freshly baked buns.
