Waiting for up to an hour or more for Eng's Wanton Mee was the norm at its Dunman Food Centre location for many years.

And it seems to be the case too, at its new location - a shophouse unit in Tanjong Katong Road.

The bigger and more comfy shop, which can seat up to 90, opened on Saturday, attracting hundreds of fans over the weekend.

It attracted a bigger turnout yesterday, selling hundreds of bowls of the noodles.

The eatery had to close for a few hours in the afternoon when it ran out of lard and reopened at 6pm when it managed to render lard from cooked pork fat, a main seasoning item in the famous noodles.

Then it had to close for the day at 8.30pm when it ran out of the egg noodles. The shop was supposed to open till 11pm.

The popular Wanton Mee was sold out again tonight - by 8pm. There were some customers seen eating in the shop but they had joined the queue earlier or had 'priority' now after having been turned away the past two days.

Eng's won Singapore Press Holdings' Singapore Hawker Masters award for wanton mee last year.

Although the new shop is non-air-conditioned, it was far more comfortable than its old location. That could have encouraged many of its fans to check out the new location, which is quite near Dunman Road Hawker Centre.
